There isn’t a person on this planet who hasn’t embarrassed themselves and tried to save face. On the 27th December, it was the people at Instagram after the internet backlash to their latest update.

The update switched Instagram's traditional scrolling feature from vertical to horizontal a la Tinder. For many users who have been patiently hoping and waiting for the Facebook-owned company to bring back chronological timelines, this was the last straw.

Within minutes people took to social media to complain about the new update. The furor was swift and after only about an hour, the update was removed and Instagram was back to normal.

On Twitter, Instagram's official account put the update down to a "bug". Instagram's Head of Product tweeted that it had been part of a test that "went broader than anticipated." Oprah Voice "So what's the truth?"

Twitter already had its own theories, namely that the update was intentional and that in the face of intense backlash, Instagram reversed the upgrade. Twitter users had fun with it anyhow, as they always do.
