A French author is currently circulating the internet has been trying to claim that women over the age of 50 aren't attractive enough for him. Obviously we're having absolutely none of it. The man responsible for spouting this ageist, sexist rubbish? Yann Moix, a prize-winning author actually, Moix has picked up several prestigious literary awards including the Prix Goncourt and the Prix François Mauriac. You would think this might have turned him into less of an insufferable misogynist and offered insight into the complexities of desire and the incredibly reductive standards of female beauty that are dictated by the media, but this is not the case.
Moix has caused an uproar by announcing in an interview in French Marie Claire that he can't really get his rocks off with a woman who is more than half his age. Speaking to the magazine while promoting his new book Rompre he said 'At 50, I am incapable of loving a woman of 50. I find that too old'
That in itself is pretty gross, especially considering Moix himself is 50 years old (It's difficult to know where to begin with the hypocrisy). However the interview got even more skin-crawlingly weird, as he told Marie Claire that his personal taste runs towards women young enough to be his offspring “I prefer the bodies of younger women...The body of a woman of 25 is extraordinary." said Moix, and as a 26-year-old I can confirm I feel creeped out and want to take a bath.
We can only imagine the person who had the unfortunate job of interviewing him probably felt like taking a bath immediately afterwards as well. Yann went on to state that he prefers to date “Asians, essentially Korean, Chinese and Japanese women." but being called a racist is one thing Yann Moix won't stand for: "I am not boasting about that. I am trying to be honest and frank. A lot of people would be incapable of admitting that because it is racism."...sure, Yann.
Since then, there's been a backlash of reactions to the interview, among the best of them French journalist Colombe Sheck posted a picture of her naked legs and buttocks on Instagram with the caption “Voila, the buttocks of a woman aged 52…what an imbecile you are, you don’t know what you’re missing, you and your tiny, paunchy brain.”. And in the meantime, for our own amusement we have compiled a list of all the 50-something and older women Yann Moix probably couldn't get a date with.
