The row between Meghan Markle, Prince Harry and the Royal Family has been reignited as the couple's opinions on the Queen’s lack of ‘ownership’ against racism are thought to have been revealed.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s claim is made by friends of the couple in a new chapter from their updated biography – Finding Freedom.
In a new extract added to the book, which came out last year, authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand write: 'The Queen’s "recollections may vary" comment did not go unnoticed by the couple, as a close friend of theirs says they were ‘not surprised’ that full ownership was not taken.'
The authors of the biography, which the Sussexes have insisted was made without their input, write that Harry and Meghan cannot 'move forward' because of a lack of accountability on the part of the Royal Family.
The couple’s response is a reference to the Royal Family's official statement after the Oprah interview, which read, ‘The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.'
‘The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. Whilst some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. ‘
In the groundbreaking TV interview with Oprah which aired in March, the Duchess of Sussex revealed that a Royal Family member voiced their concerns about their unborn son Archie’s skin colour and ‘what that would mean or look like’.
To counter this, shortly after the interview aired Prince William firmly stated, ‘My family is very much not racist’ during a press trip.
However, these new comments suggest that the Duke and Duchess do not believe that any progress has been made by the Palace since their explosive interview.
