Harvey Weinstein's rape trial in New York has not been without its drama. The disgraced film mogul has already been lambasted for using his telephone while in the courtroom, his bail has been threatened due to bad behaviour and activists have been silently protesting outside the courtroom in honour of #MeToo.

Then, supermodel Gigi Hadid was revealed as a potential juror in the high-profile case. The trail, which is still in its early stages, saw the supermodel in a queue of potential jurors that will decide the fate of Weinstein. But her hopes of taking on Weinstein have now faded: she has been dismissed as a participant.

This happened in New York on Thursday, but Gigi had been in court earlier in the week to answer questions about her eligibility.

Gigi had reportedly told the judge, James Burke, that she has met Weinstein and knows one of his alleged victims, Salma Hayek. (The actress has accused Harvey of aggression and sexual harassment in retaliation to her denying his advances). It is unlikely that Gigi will stand in court because of her affiliation with the actress and after meeting Weinstein. Additionally, she is close friends with Cara Delevingne, who has spoken out publicly about Weinstein's harassing behaviour toward her. She revealed on Instagram that Weinstein tried to make her kiss another girl, and when she refused, he forced himself on her.

When asked by the judge whether she could be an impartial juror, Gigi replied' 'I think I am still able to keep an open mind on the facts.' 14 potential jurors were dismissed last week from the high-profile trial.

Despite the countless accusations which birthed a worldwide movement, Harvey Weinstein has pleaded not guilty to 5 counts. These include forcing a woman to engage in oral sex in 2006 and raping a woman in 2013.
