We recently wrote about how receptionist Nicola Thorp was sent home for wearing flats to work and now there is another ludicrous installment to the dress code that women 'should' be following.

Bruce Hurwitz, a recruiter, penned an essay on LinkedIn, stating that engagement rings should never been worn in a job interview.

Why? Why should we not show our commitment to the one we love? Why is a band on our left hand, forth knuckle being given airtime in job interviews as opposed to talent and work ethic?

Because apparently an engagement ring can make women appear ‘high maintenance’ and men according to Hurwitz, 'may be willing to have a high-maintenance woman in his personal life; he doesn't necessarily want one in his office.' Sigh.

It’s not just men who will supposedly judge your engagement ring, Hurwirtz also wrote about women having an issue with it too.

‘When the woman at the office who has the largest diamond on her finger, sees that ring, she will realise that if you are hired she will fall to second place and will, therefore, not like you. Lose the ring!’

Sorry to break it to you Hurwirtz, but women have more important things to worry about than who has ‘the fanciest engagement ring’ and that concept is pretty insulting, to say the least.

Unsurprisingly, the essay received a lot of backlash from people.

One user replied, ‘Making judgments as suggested in this article are archaic. If people are really sizing up talent by a ring, no ring, or the size of it. It's a red flag! Run the other way and don't look back. Should a man remove his wedding band?’

Another replied, ‘1973 called, they want their advice back’.
