Today voters in some parts of England head to the polls for the local election, where they will be voting for local councilors.
150 councils are being decided on in these elections, where individual councilors are voted for, rather than whole parties.
While local elections have little bearing on what happens at government level, they can be a good indication of how the public is feeling about a specific political party and can foreshadow things to come in the general election.
And if you’re wondering what you’re voting for, local councils deal with issues like bin collection, transport in the area and leisure services.
There are also six mayoral elections going on today, in Hackney, Lewisham, Newham, Tower Hamlets, Watford and the Sheffield City Region.
For those of you who woke up extra early to vote (polling stations are open from 7am to 10pm) or if you just need a Thursday pick-me-up, here are some snaps of the cutest dogs at polling stations.
