Carrie Symonds, fiancee of Boris Johnson, is not staying with the prime minister following his coronavirus diagnosis. Pregnant with his child, Carrie - a former head of communications for the Conservative party - will stay away while he self isolates at his home in Downing Street, according to reports.
Asked if Boris was isolating from his fiancee, an official spokesperson said: 'The Prime Minister of course follows all of the guidelines which have been issued by Public Health England in full.'
'His circumstance is such as that he will be required to self-isolate for seven days.' The Independent adds that a spokesperson confirmed that Carrie is staying 'elsewhere.'
The pair announced news of their engagement, and that they were expecting a baby, earlier in the spring. ‘Many of you already know but for my friends that still don't, we got engaged at the end of last year... and we've got a baby hatching early summer. Feel incredibly blessed,' Carrie wrote on Instagram, alongside a selfie of the pair. Speculation has been that the pair got engaged whilst on holiday in Mustique over Christmas - putting Boris Johnson on track to be the first prime minister to get married while in office for 250 years.
The prime minister confirmed his diagnosis on Twitter earlier today, saying he has mild symptoms such as a temperature and a persistent cough.
'Over the last 24 hours I have developed mild symptoms and tested positive for coronavirus,' he wrote. 'I am now self-isolating, but I will continue to lead the government’s response via video-conference as we fight this virus. Together we will beat this. #StayHomeSaveLives.'
Shortly after, Health Minister Matt Hancock confirmed that he, too, has tested positive.
