According to Nameberry (who are quite big on names, clue is in the title) these are the biggest baby naming trends for 2019. So if you're hoping for an on-trend moniker, here you go. On the other hand, if you're trying to avoid being mainstream, only three babies were named Nigel in the UK last year, and none of them were girls.

'International' names

For instance: Acacius, Aroha, Cyrene, Jedda, Kiran, Lautaro, Lior, Niabi, Sena, Walken

Gender neutral names

Such as: Briar, Campbell, Rowan, Finley, Journey, Justice, Laken, Gamble, Revel, Robin, Royal, and Story.

Names Inspired by 'Eastern religions'

If you're not worried about cultural appropriation: Asherah, Bodhi, Kali, Lakshmi, Manu, Osiris, Raiden, Rama, Tanith, Zen

Muted colours

Not just for your walls: Nameberry suggests Ash, Fawn, Grey/Gray, Ivory, Lavender, Lilac, Mauve, Moss, Olive and Sage.

We suggest not choosing taupe.

Gemstones

Forget Ruby or Amber. Nameberry suggests Amethyst, Emerald, Garnet, Jasper, Jet, Onyx, Opal, Peridot, Sapphire, Topaz.

Maybe don't go for diamond.

F names

F is the letter o 2019. Nameberry suggests Faye, Felix, Fern, Finnian, Flora, Florian, Frances, Frankie, Frederick and Frost.

We like Felicity, Florence and Finbarr.

U sounds

U is apparently the 'coolest vowel' for 2019. So top picks include Eulalie, Hugo, Jude, Juniper, Louise, Luca, Luna, Reuben, Tallulah and True.

Ulysses seems like something of a omission.

3 letter names

Nameberry says that three letter names are hot right now. You could try: Hal, Ida, Jem, Koa, Liv, Lux, Rex, Rio, Van.

Other ideas include Doe, May, Ivy and Rae.

Animal names

For those of you who want something a little more out there, animal names are definately unusual.

Ideas include: Bear, Falcon, Fox, Hawk, Koala, Lion, Lynx, Otter, Tiger, Wolf.

The more conventional amongst us might like Kitty or Cat, both short for Catherine.

Celebrity surnames

Just remember, you never know what dirt might come out about a celebrity. If you're picking a surname based on someone you admire, let's hope there aren't any skeletons in their closet.

Ideas: Beckham, Bowie, Ellington, Hendrix, Jolie, Ledger, Lennon, Lennox, Monroe, Wilder.

Probably best avoided: May, Johnson and Cameron.
