Young Fathers: ‘You Have To Be Yourself And If People Don’t Accept It Then F*** Them’

Ally explains that they initially wanted to record Tape Three, but their newer material showed much more of a progression from their previous stuff, leading to the recording of Dead. ‘Dead as an album stands on its own.... It’s a progression from Tape One and Tape Two.’

This year looks set to be busy for Young Fathers, with ‘lots of gigs and lots of shows’. Ally tells us that, though still based in his hometown of Edinburgh, he is pretty much living on the road for the next few months as they tour Europe and hit up festivals such as Glastonbury and Wickerman.

So far, Young Fathers have been enjoying their hard-earned success. ‘It’s great to hear that people are enjoying what you’re doing,’ says Ally. He’s also not about to let any negative feedback affect his confidence in Young Fathers. ‘You just have to be yourself, if people don’t accept it you just have to say, “Fuck them,” and keep doing what you’re doing, be true to yourself. We’re ambitious, we want to take Young Fathers as far as we can.’
