Bored of running on the treadmill and being all virtuous in your yoga class? Ditch them and pick up one of these guys instead.

Ravercise

Dancing around in a club to drum and bass? Yep, we’ll take that over Jane Fonda-esque aerobics any day. Located in Brixton’s Dogstar (new Shoreditch venue coming soon) this ‘class’ does involve the sort of stuff you’d expect from a regular fitness class like stretching and warm ups (yawn), but there’s also a massive section of the class called ‘Skank Out’ which can't be too much of a stretch from what we'd be doing if were at an actual rave, six rum n' cokes down.

Ballet at home

People love banging on about ‘Barrecorre’ the ballet-based fitness class that’s had all of London and New York’s fitness trend monsters in a tizzy for the better part of a year. Give expensive classes a miss though and download this Android app so you can practise all the basics at home instead. Your kitchen counter will probably do just as well as a bar, and you can do it to the soothing sounds of Iggy Azealea instead of Pachabel’s Canon in D.

Circus Workouts

Available all over the UK. Circus classes can be in anything from trapeze, acrobatics, unicycle and tight rope walking. There’s even classes in how to do that super cool thing they used to do in the BBC ads when they roll themselves up and down a massive piece of material from the ceiling. Which certainly beats running 5k down the road in the boiling hot, breathing in car fumes and dodging tourists left right and centre.

Trampolining

Never ever going to feel like exercise this one, trampolining is now mainstream enough to be available in plenty of gyms up and down the country. Turns out bouncing up and down can burn 50 calories every ten minutes AND according to NASA (those guys know their shit) ten mins of trampolining is a ‘more effective cardiovascular workout than 30 minutes of running’. So, make friend with those kids that live down the road and pop over to use their trampoline after they've gone to bed. Their mum and dad probably won’t mind at all.

ZUU

Zuu is the newest fitness class that everyone’s getting their knickers in a twist about. Hailing from Australia, the class focuses on moves based on bears, frogs and gorillas and also burns 700 calories a session. So, while it’s not exactly going to be the easiest fitness class you’ve ever taken, anything that gives us licence to roll around on the floor like a monkey for 60 minutes is just fine by us. Check out zuu’s instagram here to see some of the moves for yourself.
