Bye bye Rio. The World Cup's been real but now it's over, does it mean we're at the top of the long, depressing, slow descent into winter? Sort of yeah, sorry about that. But that's not to say that there's nothing left to get excited about before that all happens. Here's what else is coming up.
Silicon Valley
Been looking for the show to fill that half-hour comedy slot left empty by the summer hiatuses (hiatus'? hiati?) of New Girl and Parks and Rec? Silicon Valley is the new sitcom that's taking the tech world to task. It ‘s created by Mike Judge (the dude behind Beavis & Butthead) and follows Richard, a programming geek working in the tech world’s biggest company Hooli (read: Google) who unwittingly creates a method of data compression that’s unprecedented in speed and finds himself at the centre of a bidding war between the tech world’s two biggest players. Tech-based hilarity ensues.

X Factor
Is there anything better than finally having an excuse to stay in on Saturday nights? Not that we’ve not enjoyed summer or anything but spending Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights drinking in beer gardens and parks because it’d be a 'shame to waste the weather' is going to be wearing really thin by the end of August. Once X Factor's back though you've found yourself an excuse to glue yourself firmly to the sofa. Sure by four weeks into X Factor we’re going to be lamenting the downfall of the music industry and the evils of reality TV but until then allow us to have our moment. Plus, Mean Spice Mel B as a judge? Yes please.

MTV VMAs
While there probably won’t be anything Miley and Robin Thicke – worthy (yep that was nearly a year ago), MTV are sure to try and match the furor of pop's weirdest couple's infamous creepy performance from last year. As well as being the most tweeted about event ever, it made a hero out of Miley and sparked the beginning of a very public downfall for Robin Thicke, which is nice. So, what similarly risque performance have MTV got up their sleeve for this year? Justin Bieber performing wearing nothing but a (small) marijuana leaf to cover his modesty? Taylor Swift doing interpretive dance moves while Ed Sheeran beatboxes? Watch this space.

Banks’ Debut Album
We've been hanging off the Californian singer every move for over a year now, but Banks’ debut album is finally due out September 2nd. Set to feature Brain and Goddess, which incidentally happen to be two of our fave singles of the year, we've got the whole thing pre-ordered on iTunes like the sad act fan girls we really are. Roll on September.
