Oof so where did we leave things last season? Mad Men’s hard enough to keep up with even if the last episode’s fresh in your mind so you’re forgiven if your hazy memories of last season contain nothing but whiskey bottles and sordid sexual games. Allow us to fill you in on the finer details of what happened.

Things were looking pretty bleak if we’re honest. Ted, the married man who’d been chirpsing Peggy decided he’d sack off his wife and tell Peggy he wanted to be with her. Then, because he’s awesome, he changed his mind and decided to move to California with his wife. Which is weird for two reasons, number one being that he’d promised he’d stay with Peggy and number two being that Don was meant to be the one who went to California. In fact, Megan had already quit her job on the soap opera and was planning to pursue acting in LA.

Don being Don though, and in a bad way finally thanks to all the drinking and ladies, decided to tell some clients all about the brothel he grew up in and tell them that he didn’t think they needed an ad campaign. Turns out his bosses weren’t all keen on this sort of behaviour so they give Don a leave of absence. Pete went to LA instead.

And that, is sort of where we were. Here’s some things to look out for in tonight’s episode

Pete Campbell’s new look

Once a douche, always a douche. Just turns out some people look more wanky in the sun. Pete Campbell is definitely one of those people if his new look is anything to go by. Think vintage Joey Essex and you're halfway there.

Don looking fit again

Let’s be honest, he’d gone a little grey around the gills towards the end of last season. Come episode one, that's all forgotten. Be still our beating hearts.

Time moving on

We’re looking at colour TV’s, the innaugaration of Richard Nixon and new and strange ideas of male/female relationships. The 60’s are nearly over, and so’s the show. :(

Joan kicking ass, yet again

Seriously, while the rest of the characters spiral dangerously out of control (you've got a lot to look forward to when you find out what Roger's been up to) as the show gets ready to draw to a close, Joan’s the only one that's quietly gone about her business, played her cards right and built herself into a little mini empire of awesomeness. Go Joan.

Peggy as a landlord

Makes us grateful for ours, even if our boiler didn’t work for all of January.

Megan’s wardrobe

YES PLEASE. Take note Vanessa Hudgens, THIS is how you do California chic.

Mad Men returns tonight on Sky Atlantic at 10PM
