They're the Sheffield-born boy-girl duo that started off their careers pedalling twee pop before moving on to the more serious stuff. Now, as they put the finishing touches on their third album Complete Surrender (you can listen to the

), we asked the guys to tell us which songs they stick on when they need a bit of inspiration.

Rebecca

**Roar – Katy Perry

'This song came out at a time I really needed it to. I had two separate friends text me to say that KP wrote a song for me. So true! I was tiring of running up emotional hills listening to Firework and this became the perfect alternative. Say what you want about pop music, but singing this song at the top of your lungs with a view of Rotherham made me feel better than anything had done for a long time.

'

Sticks and Stones – Jamie T

'This song is inspirational to me because, a): if you run at the gym to it eight times you can do 5km without realising; b): it has two choruses – and both of them are perfect!; and c) it's a song about having loads of fun with your friends and that all life is potentially about I think.

'

Charles

Kid Creole And The Coconuts – There's Something Wrong In Paradise

'Apparently, this guy lived near Rebecca in the 90s. Weird.'

Captain Beefheart – I'm Glad

'Sweet Baboo introduced us to this tune.'

Michael Jackson – Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough

'Try and find the demo of this tune. Its even better.'

Bright Eyes – Tourist Trap

'This is the B side to Four Winds. Always pretty amazing words from that man!'

Al Green – God Is Standing

'Killer. Bass. Line.'

Slow Club play Village Underground on the 13 May. Their new album, Complete Surrender, is out 14 July.
