We know how it is. You know how you can just spend HOURS scrolling your Pinterest feed, going deeper and deeper into a hole of feeling even worse about your shit flat? That the time spent reading this article for 10 minutes and could’ve been better spent actually doing something about it.
So we’ve done the research for you and have come up with these super easy ways to transform bits of your flat, so it’s totally as good as what’s on your Pinterest boards – but won't cost you the time or the money. Read on my friend…
1. The curated shelf
Shelving is very important, not just for storage but for display, too. Choose a nook, and spend an hour getting rid of all the shit you haven’t touched for more than a year. You’ll feel so much better for getting rid of all that pointless stuff, and just keeping what you actually like to see and use.
Start categorising these bits and use your shelving in a positive way, grouping books, CDs (lol) and other items such as candles. By arranging by size or colour, and adding sentimental postcards to the shelves, you’ve got yourself a totally instagrammable setup that’s both pretty and practical. Rug available here.
2. Create a small focal point
If you’ve got a corner that needs a little love, make a focal point with an IKEA stool diy’d with neon paint. Not only does it look super cute but is a cheap alternative to a side table.
3. Get a plant
With every great interior there’s a great plant. Or something like that. Cheese plants (as above) look really nice and are easy to look after. Plus anything with cheese in the title? We’re sold.

4. Paint your room white
It’s pretty easy to discover that all the best interiors on your Pinterest boards probably have white walls, right? Well, buy yourself a pot of the stuff and get painting. You could definitely do this in one day (unless you’re trying to paint over Dulux’s Sexy Pink – trust me, this was always going to be a bad idea). The end result will be much cleaner, lighter, and will give an illusion of space. Why would you not?

5. Put something on the walls
I’m guessing you’ve definitely got a pile of gallery postcards, family photos and random bits of ‘aww thats nice’ hanging around somewhere? Well, now’s the time to collect those together and make a little arrangement on one of your newly painted white walls. Use neon tape for a bit of extra colour pop.

6. The faux sheepskin rug
This rug is genius at only £10. Use it draped on your armchair, on the bed, under a table (perhaps your new stool?) or just anywhere that needs a bit of extra something. Way better than two trips to Pret. #savethesheep
7. Get creative with a tester pot
I know white walls are the be all and end all, BUT a splash of colour here and there wouldn’t go a miss. If you’ve got a spot that needs a bit of love, get yourself a tester pot and some masking tape and paint just a section of the wall. The pot will go much further than you expect, just make sure to mask the wall with tape to get a straight line. We love Yellowcake, Cooking Apple Green, Sapphire Salute & Cinder Rose.
8. Refill your bathroom containers
Got a gift from Aesop once and eked it out so much you barely washed your hands ever? Just refill the bottle with your trusty supermarket soap and fool everyone with your fancy bottle. If you didn’t get a £27 posh hand soap last christmas, head down to & Other Stories where the dreamy packaging won’t cost you the earth but WILL look bloody beautiful.
