I really like stars. And flowers. The moon is awesome too. I also have a penchant for angsty, feminine charm mainly because I (and I imagine every other twenty-something woman out there) can relate to it on every level imaginable. So when I came across Maddy Young, an artist based in Melbourne Australia, I was hooked.

She works with everything from risoprints and risographs, letterpress prints and illustration to make pins, cards and zines. She even tattoos her friends’ skin guys. It’s the kind of art you want to eat because you love it so much.

Below are some reasons why I love her work so much

1. The Naked 'Selfies'

selfie-nudie

I like that the illustrations of naked girls are always slightly awkward, maybe a little nervous, but still very naked.

2. The Bad Girl Art Club

In her words 'A reminder of your bad girl art power, creative babes sticking up for each other and getting it done.'

3. Her confidence in using unusual materials

These are my favourites, cyanotype or 'sun prints' as Maddy calls them. You can buy quite cheap sets here though you may need to move to Australia to actually get some sun .. :-/

4. The way she draws stars

'Home', a riso print (a type of Japanese eco printing medium) you can buy here on Maddy’s e-store (and check out some other gems while you’re there obviously). Check out the stars at the top.. magical.

5. Her ability to turn her art into profitable business ventures

Maddy doesn't only sell prints but also cards, pins, badges and so much more. This one is called 'Wonder'. Lovely.

6. She can make rope look dreamy

And the stars again.
