Feel like a mince pie that's been left to soak in a barrel of mulled wine? Know the feeling. The only way to get out of that post-Chrimbo fundown is to turn the telly off and go on a 10k run then come back and drink nothing but green juice until February #GetTheGlow!!!
Kidding. What could be fun though (kind of) is some life admin. That stuff that you’ve been putting off all year, that you know will make you feel really good when you’ve actually done it.
Here’s a list and some tips to get you started.
Do your tax returnsssnooooooooore
Ok, let’s get the really shit one out the way first. Tax stuff. If you’re freelance this could be a bit of a biggy and you may want to call in the professionals (well done, you may pass go) but if not, there’s no time like the present! www.gov.uk is helpful and very easy to use so start there if you need some help figuring things out.
Give your wardrobe a mid-winter clear out (it feels so goood)
It took me about 25 years of hoarding to realise the benefits of having a not-full-to-the-brim wardrobe. I got rid of four bin bags full of clothes at once and I swear to god I haven’t missed a single thing. The simple rule is: if you haven’t worn it for a year and it’s not something you care about then get rid.
Then flog all your unwanted stuff to unsuspecting tweens and people who collect weird shit
You’re probably feeling the pinch right now. Time to earn some $$$. Depop is great if you have fairly current/cool stuff but if you don’t then a carboot sale is way more fun. Just don’t expect people to pay more than £2 for anything. Also you’ll be surprised by what people will buy there so take everything; half-used moisturisers, the lot.
Clear out your childhood room whilst listening to old Westlife CDs
This isn’t just life admin, guys, but more a rite of passage. Which I was denied earlier this year when my Mum put my room on Airbnb and threw out ALL of the stuff I’d left in there. Fairs, I hadn’t lived in it for about ten years, but I did not like coming home and not being able to find my teddies. Not one bit.
Take a trip down memory lane and organise all your photos
Just for the Instagram opportunities alone, amirite?!! If you have shoe boxes full of real life photos Etsy is great for picking up some cool photo albums. If you’ve got loads of digital ones on your computer then use photobox.
Pay and file all your bills in alphabetical order
A task that can only be made more fun by purchasing a back-to-school amount of stationary. Files, highlighters, stickers... the lot. Well, you know what they say about a spoon full of sugar.*
