Emily Atack shot to fame as Will McKenzie's high-school crush Charlotte Hinchcliffe in The Inbetweeners.

For years to come, the actress was largely defined by her character often referred to in the show as 'Charlotte Big Jugs' - so it comes as no surprise that she was snapped up for the cover of lads mags.

Emily has now admitted that after the show drew to a close and the two spin-off movies wrapped up in 2014, her career went quiet. It wasn't until four years later, when she starred in I'm A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! that her career took off again.

In a pre-recorded appearance on The Jonathan Ross Christmas Show, which is set to air on Christmas Eve, the star said, 'The wonderful thing about the jungle was it gave me this whole new lease of life in my career.

'I needed a new medium to say the things I wanted to say. I thought by doing the jungle it would show a little bit more who I am as a person. It's very easy to be categorised when you do lads' mags and all that kind of stuff…'

Emily, who now presents the spin-off show of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! Extra Camp, admitted that while she's proud of her previous career, it informed the public's opinion of her.

'I thought for years people have been talking about my body, my sexuality, what I look like,' she went on.

'My career became very much about what I looked like, so I thought, what better way - when the jungle came knocking - to show what I have as a person and what more I have to offer.

'I've got the FHM plaques on my wall and I'm very proud of them. But I just got to a point where I needed a new medium to say the things I wanted to say.

'I wasn't the goddess in the shower in the bikini, I was the freckled faced idiot running around with no care in the world.'

Women being defined by their appearances is nothing new. Myleene Klass also appeared on I'm A Celebrity, but instead of the public talking about her singing voice or her career achievements, she became famous for showering in a white bikini on the show.

Similarly Katie Price is never congratulated for her achievements as a hard-working mother to five children, but referred to as a former glamour model.

It seems blindingly obvious that women have far more to offer in terms of talent, personality and strength of character than simply what they look like in a bikini, and Emily simply proves that.
