Whilst the arrival of summer means a brand new wardrobe (hello SS15 trends) and a tan that hasn't come out of a bottle, the sun can play havock on our lustrous locks - and whilst the sun might be shining they sadly aren't.
To make sure our hair stays unfrazzled and hydrated this summer, we spoke to Dr Bernhard Irrgang the Head of Research and Development at Salon Science. He shared his top tips for making sure we have the best hair in town this giving us tips on how to handle those dreaded long haul holiday flights - and it turns out we should be treating our scalp the same way we treat our skin.
Exfoliate
"It is important to treat the scalp as you would do your face and introduce a skincare regime to keep scalp supple and hydrated. Exfoliating the scalp is essential to clear away debris and keep the skin moisturised." Said Dr Bernhard, who recommends using AquacCacteen HYDRAFOLIANT Scalp Scrub for £15. This is a perfect pre-shampoo treatment for lifting old skin cells - lovely.
Cleanse
As we all undoubtedly know, a good old fashioned cleanse follows any exfoliation session. For this, Dr Bernhard recommends using the Salon Science Swiss Apple CELLULUXE Shampoo for £15: "It is an excellent cleanser enriched with nourishing phytonutrients and extract of Swiss Apple plant stem-cells to work at a cellular level below the dermis to keep hair supple and moisturised."
Moisturise
Well we all saw this one coming, didn't we? If you're going to moisturise your scalp (which you probably should) then make sure you do it after your cleansing shampoo and before your conditioner.
"Shampoo works to rough up the cuticles removing any dirt from the hair shaft, this then makes the perfect absorbing environment for the masque to penetrate the cuticle to repair and nourish from within. Then, the conditioner shuts the cuticle back down again, locking in the goodness leaving hair shining with health," explained Dr Bernhard.
Dr Bernhard also told us: "The air press inside the cabin, coupled with the dry air, high altitude, nylon seat covers and magnetic field in the plane can cause hair to become static" - and we all know static means frizzy!
To combat this he recommends using a serum to smoothe away unwanted frizz. Who knew maintaining your mane could be so easy?
