Pies 'n' Thighs

Sourdough doughnuts have hit Manhattan's newest hipster hangout, Pies ’n’ Thighs. Opening just earlier in the week, this Canal Street lunch counter (above) comes from the southern restaurant which started back in 2006 in the shadow of the Williamsburg Bridge in neighbouring Brooklyn.

Sourdough Doughnut

This comfort food haven is set to serve pies (it's in the name), fried chicken, biscuits and collard-greens. In addition to their lunch staples they will be bringing what they claim to be New York's first ever sourdough doughnut (above). Perfect for those who don't enjoy overly sweet treats the ingredients are mixed three days before they are needed giving them time to mingle and ferment. After it has been shaped, proofed and fried they are lovingly dunked in a deliciously sweet glaze while they are still warm. Yum!

Crosstown Doughnuts

If you are having a hankering for sourdough but Manhattan is a little far to travel, never fear! Crosstown Doughnuts in London have amongst others a Peanut Butter & Berry Doughnut, Sea Salt Caramel & Banana Cream Doughnut and an Apple & Pear Crumble Doughnut. Right! We're off for a box.
