The time has come. I can't deny it any more. It's 'new year, new me' season, and I've vowed to get my sorry ass running in 2015, by hook or by crook. The Run Way is my journey, and it starts right here.
This week has been a busy one full of travels, so I took my running with me. And unlike every other trip I've ever taken my gym kit on, this time, I actually pulled on my running tights and actually got out and did it.
I was in Berlin for the launch of the new Apple Watch, and because I had approximately two hours to actually see the city, I decided to plot a 10k round-trip to Checkpoint Charlie to actually take in some of the sights.
Now the weather is hotting up, I can see how people exercise in just a crop top, I was beetroot colour after my jaunt in the sunshine. But itwas great to push myself through unfamiliar streets, even if I killed my battery and nearly got lost at Potsdammer Platz on the way back. Thankfully Berlin is pretty flat, so even though I was knew I waschallenging myself with my longest distance so far, I wouldn't encounter any hills in the process.
Taking an unknown route in an international location is a big old faff however (especially if you tend to get lost like me), and I did find myself constantly de-snooding my iPhone from my armband so I could check my map and also how much mega-expensive data I'd eaten up.
Which is why the Apple Watch's imminent arrival filled me with glee - the idea of simply strapping on a watch to give you directions, music and health tracking advice on the move, it promises a whole new world of simplicity to keep you pacing along rather than fart(lek)-ing about with your various devices (even if for now, you'll also have to have your iPhone discreetly on your person too).
At the launch, I got to try on an awesome too of the range Apple Watch Editions which is now the timepiece of my dreams, although I definitely wouldn't take the 18 karat Rose gold and sapphire face out running on my unstable person - wouldn't want to ruin the supple leather strap with sweat!
Next up this week I'm off to the British Virgin Islands, so I'm going to test beach running to compare to my international urban outing. Might need some actual sunblock for that...
