A New York Brunch In London

After living in New York, I often get a deep longing for the lifestyle I grew to love there. The brunches with fresh juice and proper coffee; the service with a smile and the chic interiors of the Meat Packing District that I miss so much… oh NYC… sigh

So you can imagine my delight when I came across a little slice of NYC in LDN.

Right opposite Dishoom, one of my favorite restaurants in London, sits my new favorite breakfast joint – Tredwell’s.

After a bit (OK, a lot) of alcohol over the long weekend, I dragged my equally tired mate (her new baby is keeping her awake, just as the rum is me) to Marcus Wareing’s restaurant Tredwell’s. They have recently launched their new breakfast menu; a small, perfectly formed list of delicious dishes to start your day right.

We were both in DIRE need of caffeine, and after the damage I had done to my liver the night before, a fresh juice was necessary. Our ultra-cool waiter swiftly delivered everything with a side of calm that both of us appreciated. The coffee was strong and the juice fresh – and with the boost we needed, we mustered up enough energy to check out the menu.

Both of us went for the chorizo jam, slow cooked eggs and avocado on toasted sourdough, because, well what’s not to like?! But if you want something sweeter there are offerings including caramelised banana eggy bread, and bacon with maple syrup. Of course, you can also go for a healthy option like strawberries, granola and coconut yogurt mousse; Something for everyone.

The food was amazing; fresh, tasty and a clever twist on the old avocado-on-toast-classic. The chorizo jam wasn’t overpowering and the eggs were cooked expertly – the perfect runniness! We finished off breakfast with a serving of Cornflake Soft Serve – think a posh Mr Whippy with caramalised cornflakes on top. Yum!

But what I loved the most (after the food of course) was the New York-style décor. Huge floor-to-ceiling windows drowned the restaurant in sunshine, while white brick tiling juxtaposed the deep emerald booths and black tables, and the large lux bar was calling me to sit at it and spend the evening sipping Manhattan cocktails… shame it was only 10am.
