2017 is here, and many of us are getting started on our New Year’s resolutions in full swing (myself included). I know first hand that committing to positive change is something we are all keen to do, but might struggle with for a wide variety of reasons.

Fortunately, there are several ways to inspire and motivate yourself to follow your dreams and achieve your goals. These are tried and tested and trust me, they work!

1. Set Intentions

Setting an intention is an amazing way to support your ambitions and clarify the process of fulfilling them. An intention gives you focus and it helps to reiterate the importance of the things that you want to work towards. Your intention should always be something positive that comes naturally to you. A short term goal that has the potential to evolve is a great way to start.

Here are a few examples to get you started:

  • I intend to invite success and abundance into my life

  • I intend to love and be loved without limits

  • I intend to care for myself in one small way every day

Remind yourself daily of your intentions and check in with yourself every few days.

2. Small Moments of Self-Care

Prioritising your own happiness is one of the keys to success when it comes to reaching your goals in 2017. If you do not feel good within yourself, then your ability to motivate yourself in all areas of your life can soon become negatively affected.

Making the time to care for yourself every single day, even in the smallest of ways, can go a long way to supporting your happiness and keeping your mood boosted. This is largely because when you take time out of your day to care for yourself even just a few minutes a day, you are reminding yourself that you matter and that your needs are important.

Here are a few examples that you can choose from:

  • Meditating

  • Cooking a healthy meal

  • Taking a scenic walk

  • Having a massage or candle lit bath

  • Breathing

3. Express Gratitude

Being grateful for all that you already have is a great way to remind yourself what else can be gained through the process of positive thoughts. When you start to think about all of the things that you are grateful for, you will more than likely surprise yourself with the number of things that you can put on this list. However, instead of making one long list of things that you are grateful for, I suggest that you think about a select few each morning when you first wake. Try to then do the same at the end of your evening, and note whether the things you are most grateful for have changed during the day.

4. Put Your Health First

Not feeling great can quickly cause you to lose sight of your ambitions and goals. This is of course understandable as the priority in your life then becomes healing your body.

When you have a busy schedule, it can often seem much easier to eat fast food, processed and packaged food and move your exercise session to the bottom of your To Do list. And this can have serious implications on your health in the long term.

When it comes to your health it is important to look at the bigger picture and to acknowledge that any effort put into healthy eating and exercise today will be well worth it tomorrow! Remember, you body loves you when you eat well and move well.

Use these four points to make your way through this year. It is also worth remembering that positive change doesn’t happen overnight. If it feels like it is taking a long time to reach your goals, then do not get disheartened. Lasting change takes time and dedication, but will bring you the happiness that you deserve.
