Sure, your cupboards may be brimming with cacao nibs, bee pollen, and agave syrup that you spent the best part of an afternoon hunting down in Whole Foods, but if you don’t have a healthy cookbook to hand - you risk miserably making do with a handful of lettuce whilst resisting the urge to open the Deliveroo app.
We don’t need to tell you that home-cooking is paramount in your quest for a healthier you. You know that. From being in control over exactly what goes into your meal, to staying well away from added preservatives and salt, oh and saving you a fortune, which can fortuitously go towards your next Hermes Birkin bag, there are plenty of reasons to spend more time in your kitchen.
Here are 11 healthy cookbooks that get the Grazia stamp of approval...
1. Oh She Glows, Angela Liddon
From protein-packed snacks to decadent chocolate desserts - Angela Liddon's Oh She Glows cookbook is a must-read for those following a vegan lifestyle or toying with the idea of a plant-based diet.
Angela's speciality? Her famous Glo Bakery Glo Bars, which promise to leave you dazzling from the inside out, meaning we can (almost) forgo the highlighter drops from our morning make-up routine.
2. Feed Me Vegan, Lucy Watson
The former Made In Chelsea star was often asked 'What do you eat?!' since adopting a vegan diet over two years ago, which was the driving motivation behind her new cookbook. Plenty of delicious (and surprisingly comforting!) dishes including lasagne, pancakes and mac n cheese - all 100% vegan.
3. Eat Smart: What I Eat In A Day, Niomi Smart
Following the success of the YouTuber's 'What I eat in a day' videos (which rack up anywhere between 200k to 2 million views per upload) Niomi has released a cookbook full of delicious plant-based recipes. The fig and popcorn bars are a personal favourite and almost as good as a spoonful of cookie dough ice cream. Almost.
4. Thug Kitchen: Eat Like You Give A F**
Touted by 'wellness' guru Gwyneth Paltrow who said 'This might be my favorite thing ever', the brash-titled book encourages you to ditch the pretentious fennel and eat some 'real f*cking food'. The recipes are both hilarious and easy to follow - a great gift for your vegan friends.
5. Half Hour Hero, Rozanna Purcell
Like the moniker suggests, fitness influencer Rozanna's second cookbook is brimming with delicious and healthy recipes that take less than 30 minutes to cook, meaning more time to a) drink wine b) finally watch the Netflix series everyone in the office keeps talking about and c) sleep.
6. The Vertue Method, Shona Vertue
Though not strictly a cookbook, the fitness bible by David Beckham's PT (he credits her for banishing his aches and pains FYI!) is brimming with nutritious and protein-packed recipes, perfect for anyone who is upping the ante at the gym.
7. Lean in 15, Joe Wicks
It's no surprise The Body Coach's food bible has made the top spot, with dozens of recipes that can be made in 15 minutes which are adored by an army of Wicks' fans. The recipes, although admittedly not revolutionary, are perfect for anyone who is unsure of where to start on their health and fitness journey.
8. 28 days, Kayla Itsines
Fitness guru Kayla Itsines, best known for her cult Bikini Body Guide workout and abs to die for, has also released a book filled with 200+ recipes for enviable smoothies, fuelling breakfasts and salads which are anything but boring.
9. Simply Dairy free, Lesley Waters
Lactose intolerant? Trying to eat more ethically? This cookbook by cookery whiz and TV chef Lesley Waters deserves a spot on your kitchen shelf. From White Bean Creamy Hummus to Coconut Rice Pudding, forgoing the dairy doesn't mean you have to miss out on your favourites.
10. Slow Cooker Cookbook, Sarah Wilson
Not only does every recipe contain either no or little sugar, the recipes are also created with your slow cooker in mind, meaning healthy, nutritious meals for your whole family (or your meal prep for the week!) Oh and dessert fiends, listen up. This cookbook also has sugar-free alternatives for your favourite sweet treats.
11. Everyday, Deliciously Ella
Anyone who eats quinoa through choice and spends their Saturday mornings doing a HIIT class followed by a superfood smoothie (no judgements, of course) has heard of wellness blogger Deliciously Ella. Ella Woodward (brains behind the cult blog) created her cookbook 'Every Day' with busy schedules in mind. The book cleverly balances healthy and accessible, meaning you don't have to spend your Sunday evening searching high and low for an ingredient which no one (shop assistant included) has heard of.
