There’s been a lot of mixed opinions towards the ‘wellness’ food trend sweeping Instagram and beyond recently. I’ll be the first to admit that I can find it a little tiring seeing the words ‘eat clean’ repeated like a mantra every time I log onto the internet. But this cafe in Ireland have taken a dislike of the trend to a whole new level, by announcing a new policy that means you’ll need a doctor’s note proving you’re coeliac if you want to go gluten-free.
The White Moose Cafe in Dublin took to Facebook to proclaim that 'Guests following a gluten-free fad, who don’t even know what gluten is, can cop the fuck on and eat regular food like everybody else.' Charming.
There was mixed reaction on social media as many were outraged at the cafe’s disregard for people’s dietary choice.
Others saw the stunt as a hilarious PR move.
This is not the first time The White Moose owner Paul Stenson has been involved in controversy, after threatening to ban vegans and charge breastfeeding mothers corkage.
He’s not going back on his word though, today posting on Facebook:
In response to the backlash, though, Stenson joked: ‘In case you haven’t noticed, all posts on this page are deadly serious and it is imperative that you take them literally.’
Looks like The White Moose are taking the ‘all press is good press’ approach to running a business. A risky game, guys...
