OK, so the PR for avocado is obviously brilliant because just when we thought we'd reached peak avocado, they go and tell us that they’re 1000x better than we first thought (or maybe even more bullshitty, depending on which side of the fence you’re on). Why? Because you can bloody eat the stone, can’t you!
According to One Green Planet, the stone (or ‘seed’) contains 70% of the avocado’s antioxidants, including polyphenols which are also found in green tea. As well as that, they have a load of soluble fiber which helps with digestion and could help to reduce cholesterol levels, while the oils it contains helps stimulate collagen production (the stuff that keeps our skin plump). Not too shabby.
But how the hell do you eat it? Apparently, your best bet is cutting it into quarters – which is easier than you might think – and then putting it in to a blender (a powerful one, mind) to make a powder. It can then be used in things like juices and smoothies –they recommend half a seed for one serving and be sure to mix it with other strongly flavoured ingredients because it’s really bitter thanks to all the tannins it contains.
Now go forth and spread (eat) your seed!
