Raise Your Pastry: Prosecco Doughnuts Are Now A Thing

Another week, another Instagrammable food trend. We've already had Cronuts, spagetti doughnuts, ice cream doughnuts and the ambigious-sounding 'Everything Doughnut'. New to the food scene is the Prosecco doughnut, a joyous celebration of Summer if ever there was one.

Why Prosecco, and why Doughnuts?

Prosecco sales have taken an upturn this year, and according to recent reports we Brits consume more of the stuff than any other country. Martha Stewart Weddings recently reported on UK-based Bubble Bros, a hireable Prosecco van/'Bubble Bike' and Pinterest user's dream. And doughnuts have had their own noticeable resurgence (Black Star Pastry in Australia have even gone as far as inventing glow in the dark dougnuts, or 'glonuts').

What's the collaboration?

Italian Ruffino Wines have partnered with The Doughnut Project to mark National Prosecco Day on August 13th by, essentially, infusing glazed dougnuts with prosecco. To ramp up the visual appeal, they have been daintily sprinkled with edible gold leaf and pink glitter.

Where can we get them?

This particular doughnut is only currently available in New York, so it's a little out of reach unless you happen to be travelling Stateside. However, we reckon it's only a matter of time before small-batch dougnut shops over here catch up - over to you, Crosstown.
