The Most Pinned Foods of 2015 Might Surprise You

2015 was officially the year of peak avocado. Slathered on toast, blended into smoothies, even fried into chips, the bland yet universally-adored fatty fruit saturated our brunches, Instagram feeds, and our Pinterest boards. There was even an outcry when no-one thought to include an avocado emoji in the iPhone update (which let’s face it, was the ultimate in first-world problems).

But Pinterest have just released their list of searched-for foods in the UK in 2015, and surprisingly the avocado doesn’t dominate as much as you'd think. Sure, it’s on the list, a recipe for baked avocado with eggs was the most pinned. But it’s actually traditional english comfort foods such as toad in the hole and pork pies that reigned supreme in terms of what we actually are looking for to eat.

This sits well with me, because while I love an avocado, baked avocado with eggs sounds absolutely rank and a case of Pinterest just going way too damn far. Yeah, it looks impressive on your ‘Dream Brunches’ board, but what does it taste like? Sulphur, that’s what.

And it pleases me that wanky health foods you’d expect to flourish on Pinterest – smoothie bowls, green juices, protein pancakes – are being usurped in favour of real stodge. Britain, I love you.

Here’s the list of Pinterest’s most popular foods – with delicious recipes that make me so hungry I am knawing at my hand typing this.
