Lidl's Bank Holiday Prosecco Deal Is Nothing Short of Epic

I don’t want to stereotype, but there really is no running from the fact that (a lot of) British people bloody love a drink, especially on a bank holiday. We also seriously love Prosecco – apparently drinking one third of all the world’s bottles last year (about 40 million litres and more than any other country). But humblebrags aside, the absolute geniuses at Lidl have now combined our two favourite things and come up with a bank-holiday deal that is surely game-changing.

With one case (6 bottles) of Allini Prosecco costing £20, the deal works out as £3.33 a bottle or 80p a glass – a 50% reduction of its normal price. This particular brand was also named best bargain Prosecco last year in Good Housekeeping, where it was described as ‘light, refreshing and easy to drink’. All we need now is the weather Gods to comply so we can drink all six bottles in the garden.

Understandably, Twitter has gone into full meltdown-mode, with some users calling it the ‘bargain of the century’ or ‘Christmas come early’, and others joking that they might be camping out outside Lidl so as not to miss out. Disclaimer: the deal starts on saturday and lasts only 48 hours (26th and 27th of August), with the price of a bottle returning to the usual £5.79 on Monday.

I’m thinking we might smash our own record for Prosecco consumption this year. That said, we’re never going to get rid of our reputation as nation of boozers if we don’t all calm down. So be COOL guys, be cool.
