If you’re the sort of person who tends to receive rogue bottles of booze for Christmas, as delightful as it is, you’re often at risk of not really knowing what to do with it and leaving the drink to gather dust on your otherwise empty alcohol shelf. That’s not what we want, guys.
Kraken rum has gathered quite the following over the years. That said, you’d be forgiven for not really knowing very much about it beyond a vague flashback to Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. What you need to know though, is that it's a proper nice rum that lots of people are really into. It also goes a lot better mixed up in cocktails than you might think.
Here are some super easy ones that you can make from the erm, comfort (?) of your desk at work. Bring the bar to you, as they say...

1. The Party One
Basic Rum Punch
You need:
50ml orange juice
50ml pineapple juice
50ml Kraken
Method: Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add you rum, orange and pineapple juices. Give it a good shake and then pour out into a glass with ice. Simple.
2. The Classic One
Black mojito
You need:
50ml Kraken
2 slices lime
Fresh mint leaves
1 tbsp sugar
Soda water
Method: Squeeze a couple of slices of lime into a glass and throw the entire slices in too. Add a few fresh mint leaves and muddle it all together. Add your sugar and mix that in too, then fill the glass with ice. Next, add your rum, top with soda water and bada-bing, bada-boom, you're done.
3. The Trendy One
Perfect storm
You need:
25ml Kraken
75ml ginger beer
Lime wedge
Method: This is super straight forward for such an intimidating name. Fill a glass with ice, pour in your rum and ginger beer and then throw in a slice of lime. Done.
4. The No Fuss One
Kraken and coke
25ml Kraken
75ml coke
Lime wedge
Method: For a tastier, well measured alternative to your usual rum and coke, put a single shot of Kraken in an ice filled glass and add 75ml of coke.
5. The Seasonal One
Rum hot toddy
You need:
25ml Kraken
12.5ml orange liqueur
A squeeze lime juice
200ml hot water (or enough to fill your mug)
Lime wedge
Method: The rum goes into a mug first, followed by your orange liqueur (we used Cointreau) and lime juice. Top with hot water and you've got yourself a variation of the traditional brandy winter warmer.
