I put a knife all the way through my hand when trying to the the stone out of an unripe avocado once. Yes, all the way through. Yes, I had to have surgery. Yes I called my dad before I called an ambulance because that’s what any independent 20-something girl does in times of danger, they call their dads. But the moral of this story? Never, ever try and cut an unripe avocado, because they are the devil.
Luckily, this will no longer be an issue because PureWow have shown us all how to ripen an unripe avocado. Prepare to have your mind BLOWN…kinda.
**All you need to do this this: **
Get some tin foil and wrap your little avocado in it. Like you would wrap a baby in a towel after it’s been swimming, all snug.
Pop it on a baking tray and whack it in the oven at 100°C for about 10 minutes. Check if it’s ready (you can leave it in for longer if it isn’t) and what’s this? Your avocado is fully ripe and you can cut it without causing yourself, or your body any lasting damage.
If you want to know the science behind it, as the fruit is in the oven the combination of the ethylene gas and the tin foil speeds up the ripening process and oh hi you’ve got yourself a ready-to-eat avocado.
I would highly recommend using this method, my left index finger still doesn’t have feeling down one side and it’s not fun. Here’s to riper than ripe avocados.
