Go And See Me and Earl and the Dying Girl

Because it’s now winter (slight exaggeration sorry) it’s time to start dealing with all the dark stuff in the world again. This film at least does that with a smile on it’s face. It’s about Greg, a high school weirdo who makes films with his mate Earl with names like The Sockwork Orange and Don’t Look Now (Because A Creepy Ass Dwarf Is About To Kill You). When the two of them start hanging out with a girl dying of leukaemia, they decide to make a film about her. Bring the tissues, for laughing and for crying. If you’re not up for that, also check out the much hyped coming of age comedy Dope about a nerdy teen trying to grow up in one of Los Angeles’ toughest neighbourhoods. Or American Ultra. Although it’s kind of bombed in the US.

Stake your claim on your winter pub now

While everyone else is still trying to find cool new rooftop bars, cut your losses and move onto the more sensible ‘bars with roaring open fires’ corner of the market. Website Pubswithafire.com (super niche) is one of the most comprehensive UK pub guides that exists on the interweb; the only prerequisite? All it’s pubs have a fire in. Find yours now then watch the rest of your silly friends dribble in form their beer gardens over the next few months.

Become a film buff at Cambridge Film Festival

Starting on Thursday, the CFF is the longest running film fest in the UK and takes place in venues across the city over ten days including some you watch from the romantic setting of a boat filled with wine and cheese. Which sounds ideal. There’s 155 film to see from new releases like Dope to old classics like The Red Balloon.

Swallow your pride and get glam at Birmingham International Fashion Week

It might not be a big and glamourous as London Fashion Week but, if you fancy sipping champagne while you watch beautiful dresses glide past you on beautiful people than you could do a lot worse than BIFW. £17.50 gets you into all the shows on one day. Which is a lot easier than buttering up PRs for months only to be seated in the back row.

Get back into comfort food in a big way

Because the time for salads has come and gone. Hairy Bikers, those loveable bearded chaps your mum watches on TV have a new book out and it deals solely in cooking MEAT. Which is something you need to started munching on now to prepare for the winter cold. Right? Right. If you’re not ready to jump headfirst into eating enough for three people just yet then check out Lorraine Pascale’s Eating Well Made Easy and Jamie Oliver’s Everyday Super Food.
