Easy Winter Drinks To Give Your Immune System A Boost

Do you feel shit? I feel shit. It’s cold, dark and depressing out there and with Christmas being firmly on the horizon it’s a really rubbish time to get sick. And while we know that medically speaking, there are loads of things that contribute to catching a cold and stuff (if you don’t carry a little bottle of anti-bacterial gel in your bag yet, I’m a fan of Purell) one of the easiest ways to try keep yourself healthy over winter is getting on board with all the fruit and veg.

While it might be more appealing to make like Nigella and curl up in a ball on the sofa with a big bowl of mac and cheese every night of the week, it can’t hurt to throw in an orange or something every now and again. But if you’re looking for an easy way to sneak in some nutrition to your December diet, it might be time to revisit the smoothie. They’re not just for summer, you know.

We’ve found some of the nicest sounding weird combinations of fruit and veg smoothie recipes on Pinterest to have a go at. We’re talking oranges, kiwi, spinach, turmeric and all sorts. The stuff of nutritious, vitamin filled dreams, if you will. The type of thing your nan would be really proud of you for. Here's a smoothie for every day of the week.

7 Drinks To Boost Your Immune System

1. Mint, Ginger, Spinach & Lime1 of 7

1. Mint, Ginger, Spinach & Lime

This is the first of many 'green' looking smoothies that you're about to encounter, you guys. But with good reason. It's no coincidence that people have been going on about how great leafy spinach is. So consume all of that goodness with stomach settling (and infection fighting, apparently) ginger in something like Little Sugar Snaps' smoothie recipe.

2. Orange, Ginger and Tumeric2 of 7

2. Orange, Ginger and Tumeric

See here the queen of vitamin c in her finest form, chilled and combined with widely celebrated superfood pal, tumeric. The Endless Meal's winter detox smoothie throws in some ginger for good measure, too.

3. Banana, Kiwi and Spinach3 of 7

3. Banana, Kiwi and Spinach

I find that kiwis are often left out of popular fruit conversations (yes, I have conversations about popular fruit, don't you?) but they're actually super high in vitamin C too, don't ya know? Daisy's & Pie's smoothie calls for banana and, you guessed it, spinach as well.

4. Ginger and Pear4 of 7

4. Ginger and Pear

Ah, the pear. Another underrated, unloved wonderful fruit. If you're after something a little sweeter than most 'good for you' smoothies, give theVery Breakfastrecipe a go.

5. Pineapple Spinach and Mint5 of 7

5. Pineapple Spinach and Mint

If there are any ingredients that I'd never think to put together, it'd have to be pineapple and spinach. There is no scenario where I'd imagine them to meet. Apart from in the fancy recipe on Food To Glow. Fun fact: pineapple has lots of magnese which is great for antioxidants that contribute to glowy skin.

6. Beetroot, Orange and Berry6 of 7

6. Beetroot, Orange and Berry

People were really into beetroots last year. And even though it's a huge pain in the ass and stains literally everything in a 5 meter radius, it's good for you. If you're not a fan of the taste Natural Kitchen Adventures have a recipe that involves orange and blueberries to mix up the flavour game a bit.

7. Spinach, Mango and Banana7 of 7

7. Spinach, Mango and Banana

One more round of applause for spinach, ladies and gentlemen. This time making an appearance alongside mango over on the Gimme Delicious blog. All it takes to recreate this concoction is four ingredients. Minimum effort, zero excuses.
