Those of you who gleefully rub your hands together at the sight of a new season drink (and there are a whole lot to choose from these days, from Eggnog/Gingerbread lattes to Peppermint mochas) will embrace the reappearance of the super-popular Pumpkin Spice Latte this Fall.
But the PSL has competition – the MPL, or Maple Pecan Latte, which made its debut in Starbucks stores today.
So what’s the deal with the MPL?
Having not indulged in a Maple Pecan Latte myself, I refer to Starbucks, who describe it as ‘a warming blend of signature espresso and steamed milk combined with notes of maple syrup and pecan, and finished with a colourful autumn topping’. Word on the street is positive, declaring it to be less cloyingly sweet than its pumpkin-spiced friend, with the pecans giving it a nutty smokiness. Essentially, it's a more grown up, subtle alternative to the PSL which should, perhaps, be reserved for later in the year when we really crave that sickly sweetness.
Can we get it here in the UK?
Currently it looks like the Maple Pecan Latte is available only in US and Asia branches of Starbucks. So if you have a Fall vacation in the States planned, go grab yourself some maple goodness. Otherwise, stick to the ol' favourite, the PSl - or, indeed, try a Caramelised Pecan Latte instead, which you can get on our shores.
