Afternoon Tea at the Berkeley is already pretty special, but it’s just become high-fashion special as the venue introduces a Dior-themed tea, inspired by the Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams exhibition at the V&A Museum.
For £58, or £68 - £74 with champagne, you can dine on savoury skewers, canapes, and of course, sandwiches.
Eagle-eyed fashion experts will notice that each afternoon tea item is a direct copy of a piece of Dior history.
‘From the Junon Dress worn by Theo Graham at Le Pré Catalan in Paris 1949 to the Bar Jacket which has been synonymous with Dior since it took to the catwalk in 1947 as part of the ‘New Look,’ each piece this season takes inspiration from Dior’s fashion history,’ The Berkeley says of its new afternoon tea offering.
Pret-a-Portea The Dior Couture Collection is available from 1pm to 5:30pm daily, but we’re guessing spaces will get booked up pretty soon.
It’s possible that Christian Dior himself would approve of the quaint Englishness of The Berkeley’s afternoon tea, as he once famously said; ‘There is no other country in the world, besides my own, whose way of life I like so much. I love English traditions, English politeness, English architecture. I even love English cooking.’
The V&A exhibition Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams is on until July 14th and includes pieces from 1947 to today, tracing the history and impact of Dior and its enduring influence on design both in Europe and the world.
Exhibition highlights include an image of Princess Margaret presenting Christian Dior with a scroll entitling him to Honorary Life Membership of the British Red Cross, original sketches by Dior and an Christian Dior by John Galliano embroidered silk dress with Swarovski crystals.
