Today in food news that we’ll all be obsessing over: black ice cream is now a thing that exists. In New York, obviously, an ice cream parlor called Morgenstern’s Finest Ice Cream (can we just take a moment for that mouthful of a name, please) all be releasing a new summer flavour called ‘Coconut Ash.’ Made up of charred and processed coconut shell remains…mmm tasty… Oh, and it’s jet black.

Now, don’t get us wrong – we’re all for trying new ice cream flavours (Nutella will forever be the best though), but charred coconut doesn’t sound that appetising, does it? Or are we just not down with these new trendy health foods and now eating burnt food is the equivalent to cooking up some kale chips or something?

According to Refinery29, Morgenstern gets his coconut ash from a health food store and wasn’t thinking about the health benefits when he made the flavour – it was just all about getting that coconut taste, so we’ll give this ice cream the benefit of the doubt. Who knows, maybe it will blow our minds. Next time we’re in New York
