Considering UK restaurants chuck away an estimated 600,000 tonnes of food a year, it's probably high time we try to bring that number way down. Luckily, the Too Good To Go app should do just that, reducing food waste and allowing broke millennials to eat restaurant food guilt-free. After their app took off in their native Denmark, pals Chris Wilson and Jamie Crummie have brought the good karma over to us. In areas including London, Brighton, and Birmingham, you can now download Too Good to Go - which will enable you to buy food that restaurants would usually chuck out; at a fraction of the price.
You use the app to find the food near you, order it, go to pick it up within 45 minutes - and then some places might even let you eat your food in the restaurant. The app has major plans to expand country (and perhaps world) wide, but for now it's limited to a few major cities. Of course, there are downsides. Your food might not be freshest of the fresh, you can't always choose exactly what you have (which sucks for those with dietary needs), and restaurants usually only throw stuff out a little while after you might like to eat. But hey, beggars can't be choosers.
The other issue that springs to mind is that the app only allows for smartphone-owning individuals to find and purchase the food, which will still cost you between £2 and £3.80. The homeless population, who would benefit the most from the scheme, sadly miss out if they aren't in possession of a smartphone or a spare few quid.
In any case, we are dying to give it a go.
