Thought you had to splurge out in order to sip on a delicious glass of rosé? Well, think again, because Aldi's £5.99 version has been voted one of the best wines in the entire world. Not kidding.
The 'Exquisite Collection Cotes Des Provence 2016' won a silver medal at the International Wine Challenge, which is said to be the most prestigious wine judging competition there is. Aldi's award-winning rosé is made from Grenache, Cinsault and Syrah grapes, and was selected from thousands of entries by a panel of wine experts who were blind tasting the drinks. (Side note: how do we become a full-time wine expert?).
According to Aldi, the budget rosé 'delivers delicate yet intense flavours of summer fruits, with a subtle quartzy spice. With lovely white fruit aromas, it's the perfect match for grilled fish and salads - or why not try it as an aperitif?' Don't mind if we do.
Tony Baines, Joint Managing Director of Corporate Buying at Aldi has said: 'Being recognised yet again for the quality of our wine is a testament to the hard work our talented buying team put in to deliver exceptional products at unbeatable prices.' We salute you, sir.
Considering that Aldi's cheap wine was judged alongside bottles that were over three times its price, we've concluded that it must be pretty darn good. Guess we know what we're stocking up on for all of our summer BBQs then.
