The way that bread is sold is trolling your single, sassy, girl about town life (vom, sorry).

Because you don't have kids to feed and you average eating your meals at home about oh, once every two weeks, you haven't got time to commit to a whole loaf of bread before it goes stale. So what's a girl to do when she wants beans (and sausages) on toast but doesn't want to waste the 10 leftover slices? Find other stuff to do with it, that's what.

Here's a few suggestions.

1. A Panzanella Salad

Time: 5-10 minutes

Bread in a healthy salad? What what? Yeah. Ignore the gluten-free haters, bread can be healthy – just make sure you buy the good stuff. White bread ain't doing anyone any favours. This salad recipe from Rachel Phipps uses slightly stale bread so it's a good one to do it you managed to forget that you'd even bought some bread.

2. Avocado Toast Egg-In-A-Hole

Time: 5 minutes

If you managed Nigella's devastatingly tough recipe for avocado on toast, here's how to take things to the next level. Yeah, with a little extra effort, you can actually out cook the kitchen goddess herself. Awesome sauce. This recipe from Skinny Taste is literally just adding an egg to Nigella recipe but it sure does look fancy.

3. Cinammon Sugar Bread Crust Treats

Time: 10 minutes

Sometimes, sweet stuff is better than savoury stuff and these nifty sticks from Recipe Tin Eats are probably the easiest sweet thing to make ever. Handy when you and your housemate have been arguing for 30 minutes about who's going to get up off their arses and go to the shop next door to buy cake.

4. Bread and Chocolate Pudding

Time: 25 minutes

Because why the hell not. This pudding from House Beautiful is an excellent shout if you need a dessert. I mean you don't ever need a dessert; you're not a ’50s housewife. More just if you WANT a dessert.

5. Pita Bread Pizza

Time: 10 minutes

This one's for use with pita bread (obvs), and is way cheaper than a Dominos on a hangover. Check out The Skint Dadfor instructions on how to make your own pizza bread.

6. Crunchy Breaded Fish Fillets

Time: 25 minutes

For if you're feeling a bit fancy, you've got people coming over, and all you want to eat is Birds Eye fish fingers. Once A Month Meals has got an excellent recipe for making fancy fish fingers that actually taste better than cooking pre-made ones from frozen (what? yeah).

7. Easy Cheesy Garlic Bread

Time: 20 minutes

Because the Italians understand the power of carbs and dairy in a way that we never will. Next time you're eating a pizza or pasta, give this recipe from Crunchy Creamy Sweet a whirl.
