After another win at the US Open, tennis champion Serena Williams did a press conference and – of course – was asked by a male reporter why she wasn’t smiling. Reminiscent of the ‘smile luv it’ll never happen’ builders and just general comments about why you’re not smiling, this totally got on our tits. And hers.
So she responded blisteringly, and put everyone in their place – a fierce reminder that you don’t have to reluctantly grin, ignore them, or look at the floor.
‘To be perfectly honest with you, I don’t want to be here,’ she said. ‘I just want to be in bed right now and I have to wake up early to practice. And I don’t want to answer any of these questions, and you guys keep asking me the same questions. It’s not really – you’re not making it super enjoyable. Just being honest.’
Take THAT everyone who has ever asked us to cheer up, give ’em a smile, or asked why we look so upset. If we’re upset, we’ll look upset. If we’re tired, we’ll look tired. Check out the full response in the video below and high-five her in your mind.
