Recently things have gone a bit quiet on the case of Adnan Syed, who’s currently serving life in prison for the murder of his ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee in 1999. The murder case was the subject of the incredibly popular first season of Serial which first aired back in 2014.

Adnan Syed was granted a hearing for the case to be reopened which took place in February. During this hearing Asia McClain (now Asia McClain Chapman), who attended school with both Lee and Syed, was able to testify that she had seen Syed in the library during the time that the prosecution claimed Lee had been murdered.

During the original trial, her alibi for Syed was never investigated by Syed's then lawyer (and now deceased) Christina Gutierrez, and McClain wasn't called to testify. The defense argue that this is proof of ineffective counsel from Gutierrez and is grounds for a retrial. We're yet to hear the verdict of Judge Martin Welch on whether this retrial will be granted.

Now it's been announced that McClain is writing a book, Confessions of a Serial Alibi, set for release in June (it's available for preorder on Amazon now) and an e-book version being available in two weeks. According to her website, the book tells the story of her ‘journey from serendipitous library goer to becoming the Serial Podcast proclaimed alibi witness for Adnan Syed’.

As well as that she discusses her time at Woodlawn High School and her relationships with those involved in the case in one ‘down to earth memoir’ and addresses all the questions and comments she’s got previously. Fittingly, the book cover shows her standing in a library – the place where she claims she saw Adnan at that crucial point in the timeline.

She's not the first person involved in the case to write about her experiences - Adnan's friend Rabia Chaudry - who first bought the case to Serial presenter Sarah Koenig's attention - has also written a book about the case called Adnan's Story, which is out this summer.
