Though the classic shelfie still holds undeniable clout on our social media feeds, recently there’s been a definite shift in the way we’re showcasing our interiors online. It’s as if our focus has zoomed outwards a little: stylishly arranged and usually featuring some variant of house plant, well put-together corners keep grabbing our attention. But are they as effortless as they appear on our Instagram feeds?

With this in mind, each week we’ll be asking one influencer to talk us through the most curated spot in their house. For our latest Story of a Corner, Morgane Sézalory, the founder of cult French fashion label Sézane, has showed us how she put together her favourite nook in her enviable Parisian apartment...

The space

The space has been built gradually and evolves regularly especially according to my readings of the moment. It's also where I spend time with my husband Thibault and our daughters to play guitar and dance. This corner gathers the 2 passions of our family; books and art for me and music for my husband. It really sums up our personalities and the atmosphere that reigns in our house. There are many memories there: my guests like to come and look for books or new pictures around this spot, so it's a very personal but friendly place at the same time.

The furniture

This is a vintage piece of furniture that I bought a few years ago now. I've been going to the flea markets since I was a teenager... I sometimes spend Sundays at Les puces de St-Ouen; for the rest, I love India Madavi for the lamps and small furniture and the Conran shop for all the decoration.

The walls

On the walls are posters and paintings that I love and a personal note written by hand. I like to add colours to plain white walls which thanks to all these illustrations and souvenir photos has been achieved. I don't like the 'sanitized' atmosphere; I like it when there's life, real life.

All the books and paintings exhibited in this corner evolve according to my inspirations of the moment and mood at that time. I really like how the corner reflects so much of my moods at a given moment. There are gifts from my husband and all our friends who know us so well. It's a special place.
