Though the classic shelfie still holds undeniable clout on our social media feeds, recently there’s been a definite shift in the way we’re showcasing our interiors online. It’s as if our focus has zoomed outwards a little: stylishly arranged and usually featuring some variant of house plant, well put-together corners keep grabbing our attention. But are they as effortless as they appear on our Instagram feeds?

With this in mind, each week we’ll be asking one influencer to talk us through the most curated spot in their house. For our latest Story of a Corner, jewellery designer Maya Magaltalks us through her favourite spot in the home she shares with her husband.

The corner

'This is the corner of my home where I come to relax with a glass of wine (when I’m not pregnant), a sanctuary at the end of a hectic day. I miss the fire in the summer when it’s too hot to turn on. Like the rest of my home, it combines my love for plants, concrete, and beautiful textiles.

'The lattice bowl gold Graham & Green armchair is a comfy sheepskin snuggle that neither I nor my cat (or both) can resist. Above the chair, is a brass pot carried back from Jaipur’s metal district on one of my stone sourcing trips.

The greenery

'My home is fast becoming a greenhouse, each plant an irresistible temptation, the ultimate impulse purchase. Drooping next to the chair is my favourite plant, a tiny sapling Chain of Hearts born in Petersham Nurseries, but proudly nurtured at home. I’m not sure what to do when it reaches the ground. Next to the fireplace, is the Peacock plant from Patch. If you wake up early enough you can watch it open its leaves to take in the sunshine.

The Swoon coffee table is a perfect balance of softer wooden top and clean industrial metal lines which my toddler loves to climb on. I have to force myself to keep it free of beautiful pots, candles, and plants. As a jewellery designer, I have jewellery collections in pots (I love this gold Hay tray) all over the house.

The artwork

On top of the fire is a print (Fy!) that my husband bought me this Valentine’s Day. I see only the black, he sees the two faces kissing. It’s a joke between us.

On the top shelf, just to the right of Abigail Ahern’s (one of my favourite interior designers) faux String of Pearls, is my collection of travel backgammon sets, memories of places I have loved and games I have played.
