Though the classic shelfie still holds undeniable clout on our social media feeds, recently there’s been a definite shift in the way we’re showcasing our interiors online. It’s as if our focus has zoomed outwards a little: stylishly arranged and usually featuring some variant of house plant, well put-together corners keep grabbing our attention. But are they as effortless as they appear on our Instagram feeds?
With this in mind, each week we’ll be asking one influencer to talk us through the most curated spot in their house. For our latest Story of a Corner, interiors influencer Laura Butler-Madden has showed us how she put together her favourite nook in her home..
The space
I love this corner of our home – when I walk down the corridor towards the master bedroom it always lifts my mood. It’s a lovely bright space and the corridor is painted in one of my all-time favourite and super calming colours, Cornforth White by Farrow & Ball. I love how it reveals the brighter room and statement wallpaper beyond it. The wallpaper is Palm Leaves by Cole & Son and I just love it.
The lighting
People always comment on the lovely light in the room. It’s triple aspect and has beautiful views across the Dorset countryside. I also love the black and white print on the wall and love how it pops from the softer background. It’s a print by talented photographer Astrid Harrison from Lumitrix – she takes the most stunning equine portraits.
The furniture
I wanted to keep the colour palette soft for furniture – muted greys and browns, so found this vintage Gustavian chest in a shop in Battersea – the sheepskin footstool as a gift from Baastool and I love it.
The house plants
I love indoor plants and have lots around the house – keeping them alive is a bit of a mission, but I wouldn’t be without them! I also love Jo Malone home fragrances and love to add their candles and diffusers to rooms, mixing up the scents depending on the season.
