Though the classic shelfie still holds undeniable clout on our social media feeds, recently there’s been a definite shift in the way we’re showcasing our interiors online. It’s as if our focus has zoomed outwards a little: stylishly arranged and usually featuring some variant of house plant, well put-together corners keep grabbing our attention. But are they as effortless as they appear on our Instagram feeds?
With this in mind, each week we’ll be asking one influencer to talk us through the most curated spot in their house. For our inaugural Story of a Corner, we’ve asked freelance fashion editor Alex Stedman of The Frugality to tell us how she put together her favourite nook, part of her study in the home she's currently renovating...
The walls...
We have renovated this home meaning that most rooms are completely 'ours.' Everything has been chosen by us - even the radiators and skirting boards. The walls are painted Farrow & Ball Hague Blue: in this room we decided to go dark from ceiling to skirting boards and it's a decision I've never regretted. Our hallway is still under construction and I just love walking past this corner of the room, which is finished (despite taking 8 months to complete!).
The furniture...
The chair is from Ikea - I'm obsessed with rattan furniture and this chair doesn't break the bank. I often change up the cushions to add different 'accent' shades to the room.
The plant is also from Ikea in a White Stuff basket - it probably needs watering but has held up okay so far...
The lamp is Next, another great source of interiors for me - I love finding chic bits in unexpected places. I've only just started shopping at Next Home and there are so many gems.
The personal touches...
The prints are both picked up from our travels, I love artwork that has meaning - the picture of Mount Fuji we picked up from our honeymoon in Japan and our friend framed it for us.
