Whether you’re in halls or in a shared house, pre-drinking at university is by far the most fun part of a night out. By the time you mamange to mobilise all 20 of you (very rarely will you run around in such big circles one you graduate BTW, the having a massive group of people around you at all times will gradually get replaced by the convenience of having fewer friends), get on the bus, into whatever club you’re heading to and immediately lose every single person you’re with, you’ll be wishing for the heady days of five hours earlier when you were all sat round on couches drinking and generally talking rubbish.

Normally, one lounge will separate itself from the rest of all the other lounges as the place these pre-drinks are nearly always held. And while if your lounge is picked for this hallowed responsibility it does mean you spend most of your life cleaning up, it does also mean that you’re never not included in whatever’s going on. Which is essentially the whole point of uni... right?

Here’s a few thing to buy to make sure your lounge is that lounge.

These pillows that’ll make up for your shabby couch or shitty kitchen chairs

To be fair, you probably don't have much of a choice of what your furniture's like – heck if you’re in halls you might only be lucky enough to have a kitchen with some uncomfortable wooden torture instruments/chairs for sitting on. Treat your guests to a more comfortable environment with these cheap as chips pillows it won’t matter when they get drinks/cigarette burns in.

Tiger - £3

This bargain tastic coffee table that can totally take your drinking games

coffee table

If you've ever tried to forge a drinking game without a central surface to focus the energy of the game on, you'll know how quickly attention spans go south. A coffee table is essential to use as a centre piece to hold punishment shots, lay out playing cards and in general stop people wandering off to find out who's in the kitchen that's more interesting. This guy's only £22 and even has a handy shelf underneath to rest your hand in anticipation of any thumbmaster challenges.

Amazon - £22.21

The glasses that are so cheap it doesn’t matter HOW many you smash

glass

Don't waste your precious mugs on chumps that are just going to come round, fill them with wine then drop them on the floor in lieu of finding a surface to put them on. That's not a fitting end for the Forever Friends mug you've had in your treasured posession since your mum gave it to you when you were 13 is it? These tumblers are sturdy (less easy to tip) and ever better; cheap as chips. Break as many as you damn well please.

Wilko - £1

This rug that’ll stop those without chairs getting piles (and cover up any stains)

rug

Depending on the amount of friends you've got there's no way you'll have enough seats for all the bums that come round. As we move into winter though, your floor is going to be COLD and no one likes sitting on a cold floor (plus there's the added risk of piles and that which isn't exactly an appealing thought). This rug'll sit nicely on your wooden, tiled or linoleum floor and even better – won't show up any of the inevitable stains it'll get.

H&M - £19.99

These cards that won’t get ruined during ring of fire

cards

You know the drill, once I have never has been exhausted, it's onto Ring Of Fire. Making sure you have a set of cards is step one of being a good host, and step two is making sure you've got cards that aren't sticky from all the juice that's been spilled on them over the year. This set not only have 3-D holograms of cats on them (SO great when you're drunk), they're also waterproof meaning they're easily wipe cleanable. Result.

Playing Cards Only - £8
