What film is this? Prisoners, it came out towards the end of last year.

But isn’t up for any awards? No.

Then why are we talking about it? Because it’s just about to be released on DVD meaning you can watch now watch it on your new fangled streaming device or you can purchase it from a local supermarket.

Oh, well, is it any good? I’ll say.

Say what? That it’s good.

What’s it about then? Basically, Hugh Jackman and Terence Howard’s characters’ two youngest daughters go missing on Thanksgiving in a really awful national news child snatcher way.

Jeez, do they know who took them? Hugh Jackman has his suspicions. His son saw a dodgy looking RV hanging around but when the police catch up with it, it turns out to belong to a man with an IQ too low to have the capacity to engineer a kidnap. The police release him but Hugh Jackman doesn’t want to let it lie.

Shit, what happens? Well I’m not going to tell you that am I? Basically the whole rest of the story is a good old fashioned detective story intertwined with the deep and dark morals surrounding just how far you’d go to protect the ones you love.

And it’s good? Yes, great. It’s 153 minutes of seriously gripping cinema. In my humble opinion I came out of the cinema more sweaty and tense than Gravity, more moved than Wolf of Wall Street and definitely more entertained than American Hustle.

But it’s not up for any awards? Erm, it’s up for a cinematography Oscar… It was robbed I tell you. Robbed.
