Blue Is The Warmest Colour isn't up for an Oscar nomination - because it falls outside the allocated dates. Which means no opportunity for us to check out Léa Seydoux or Adèle Exarchopoulos on the red carpet. But where it is poor in red carpet gracing and potential statuettes, it is rich in parody, thanks to this Funny Or Die skit.
There’s lots ripped off here – the lingering pauses, the time spent talking, the actual ripping off of clothes as the parody depicts a high-turbo version of the lesbian sex film. Sorry, we mean artsy high-brow film interspersed with beautiful shots of two beautiful French women coming of age as they fall in and out of love with each other.
The best part of this parody is that it then goes on to parody the reactions of the mostly-male film critics who have heralded Blue Is The Warmest Colour the most beautiful film of the year, insisting that they didn’t enjoy it for the up-to-11-minute long graphic sex scenes, but for the artfulness of it all. The only thing we’d like to add to this parody is lots of spaghetti and awkward conversations about oysters having the same texture as vaginas.
