Beauty On Board: 15 In-Flight Must-Haves

There’s no greater fist-pump moment than hitting ‘out of office’ on your work emails. A holiday is the chance to leave the everyday mundane behind and swap strong coffees for even stronger cocktails.

Yet air travel can often leave us feeling jetlagged, dehydrated and desperate to hit the hotel room on arrival when all we really want to do is head to the beach.

The combination of cabin pressure and low humidity is to blame, but a few simple skincare steps can help even the most experienced of globetrotters feel refreshed, whatever the time zone.

Pre-Flight

Before jetting off it’s best to remove your makeup to really allow your skin to breathe on board. We recommend cleansing your skin either with face wipes or a gentle micellar water such as Bioderma Sensibio Solution, £10.50.

Once you’ve removed your makeup it’s essential to moisturise in order to lock in the hydration. For even deeper moisture, opt for a serum such as Estee Lauder's Advanced Night Repair, £50. Perfect for an overnight flight.

In-Flight

Make like Chrissy Teigen and relax with a hydrating sheet mask on board, such as the SK-II face mask, £60 for 6. Or if you’d rather not terrify the cabin crew, opt for a wash off treatment. For instant hydration, particularly through long-haul flights, use a spray like Evian's Facial Spray, £5.99, for a quick spritz.

If your eyes feel tired or run the risk of getting puffy, opt for a gel eye mask to help soothe dry eyes. We recommend Hydro Cool Under Eye Gels from Skyn Iceland, £25. They’re less scary than a full sheet mask, too (especially if you fall asleep by accident).

With the high altitude it’s often easy to suffer chapped lips too so don’t forget a hydrating lip balm such as Jo Malone's Vitamin ELip Conditioner, £23.

Pre-Land

If the very thought of stepping into arrivals minus your make-up terrifies you then now’s the chance to spruce up before the tray tables are stowed away. A little goes a long way here, so ditch your foundation for a BB cream such as Estee Lauder's BB Cream, £30, for a lighter finish (it's also ideal for hotter climates, containing SPF 30).

Then, swipe on a little brow gel and cream bronzer for that pre-holiday glow. Suffering from static hair? Dry shampoo is your in-flight saviour, while Bumble and Bumble’s Invisible Oil, £32, is another favourite when it comes to preventing flyaways. Last but not least, freshen up with a scented roll on such as Aesop's Flight Therapy, £21.

We’ve rounded up the very best in-flight essentials which will have you feeling your best even at 30,000 feet:
