Pastel hair has been around for years, but if you’re on the hunt for a fancy, new colour overhaul you’ve come to the right place. The shade in question? We’re head-over-heels for metallic highlights, and we’re pretty sure you will be too.

Expect your locks to be streaked with bronze, rose gold, silver or platinum, for what hairstylists are calling ‘a multi-dimensional’ hair colour.

It first jumped onto the beauty scene when grey hair became the big craze- when everyone from Kim Kardashian to Cara Delevingne rocked the silver fox locks. It took off in a whole new way that even we couldn’t have ever predicted. Sales of silver hairsprays soared and so did the hashtag for #greyhair and #silverhair.

But for those (yes, including us) that weren’t quiet brave enough to rock the metal hair trend, there’s a much more accessible look on the scene, and we predict you’ll love it.

Developed by Sam Burnett, Founder of Hare & Bone salon in London, we asked Sam exactly what this precious metal hair look was all about.

'It was designed for clients that no longer wanted simple highlights; instead they urged for a luminous sheen of colour, amping up shine and making thin hair look instantly thicker.' Sounds like the dream, right?

For red heads a blend focussing heavily on warm rose gold and cool copper tones works best. And then for brunettes a combination of various warm and cool gold tones works best.'

Grazia’s Art Designer, Hannah Wilson, a faux red head was looking for a style-switch up, and after little hesitation decided to give it a go. 'I’d only really seen fair haired celebrities like Rita Ora and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley work this look', says Hannah, 'so I was definitely sceptical, but after an in-depth consultation at the salon, I was assured it would work just as well on darker hair like mine.'

First Hannah’s hair was neutralised from red to brown, and then she opted for rose gold highlights, followed by a high-gloss toner to give a serious shine injection.

The colour was applied balayage style, so that there were no distinctive lines, and to ensure the semi-permanent colour faded rather than needing touch ups as often as you’d expect.

So, if you too are looking for a new colour to try. We urge you to go molten metallic…
