If you love anything rainbow or unicorn-inspired, and have experimented with colourful hair in the past, geode hair is the new trend you're going to want to take note of. Inspired by the sparkling crystal-lined geode rocks, geode hair is when a rainbow of irridescent colours are ombréd into the hair to look like the swirling colours of a jewel.
Make-up artists have experimented with geode-inspired lip colours and creams in the past, and now hair colourists are experimenting with putting amethyst violets, deep emerald greens, sparking pinks and shimmering moonstone blues through the hair to capture the essence of the beautiful geode rocks. The colours can either be worked into the hair to be visible, or can be hidden, revealed only when intending to wow (or when the wind blows).
Geode hair has been developed by Cherin Choi, the owner of Ramirez Tran salon in Los Angeles. Speaking to Refinery29, Choi explained how she acheives this eye-catching update on rainbow hair, and it's not as tricky as you may expect. 'The hair is completely dried, then the amethyst purple is applied on the mid sections, then the moonstone blue onto the very tips.' Choi explained. 'I use a brush and emulsify with my hands to blend the colors.'
There's nothing rigid about the creation of this jewel-toned hair; the dying process is akin to painting freely with all the prettiest, virbant tones to emulate the gradient of colours in geode rocks.
Geode hair has taken hair colouring up a notch, and you can expect to see a lot of it this spring/summer. Definitely keep an eye out for jewel-tones whipping in the wind at Coachella...
